Pics from the Kimchikhan Documentary Dinner Friday, Jun 5 2009

Chef Anna Kim came to Korea to conquer and conquer she did. This accomplished chef currently works in Gordon Ramsay's Empire in Las Vegas and she was asked to come to cook for dinner event for an upcoming documentary on Kimchi called KimchiKhan (www.kimchikhan.com). The film is being produced and directed by Steve Shin and it has the playful byline: Searching for the 6th taste bud.

All of her dishes are made without butter or sugar and she only had 24 hours to prep from start to finish for this event.

Amazing.

Here are a few of her creations.

We have kimchi chocolate, a salt baked sea bass with kimchi lemon sauce, stuffed kimchi rolls, filet mignon with kimchi, kimchi and gomchi bilinis with salmon and caviar, and kimchi chocolate cherries with roasted soybean powder.

Sortini’s in Itaewon has awesome Lasagna Thursday, May 14 2009

Their Pizza ain’t half bad either. Check out the crust on this bad boy. The other dish we had was a prosciutto with bleu cheese. That dish wasn’t my favorite because the cheese was a bit too ripe. The artichoke hearts were a nice touch. Now the place I went to was the old Sortinos, not the new Villa Sortinos. You can check their website here.

Mac N Cheese Food Porn! Monday, Mar 9 2009

So, Paul Ajosshi says that I have contributed to his waste line by suggesting the amazing mac n cheese at Macaroni Market. I am proud to have done so. So I was reading his article on Macaroni Market and I was utterly blown away by his pictures.

Paul, you have some mad photography skills!

The two pictures above are from his website. The first one looks like a painting and the second is food porniffic.

Pretty Girls Enjoying Food Saturday, Jan 31 2009

Sigh…I invite others to dine with me because they are so pretty when they eat.

Gostiny Dvor: Russian Food in Seoul. Thursday, Jan 22 2009

Russian Gostiny Dvor is a Russian Restaurant that was recommended by my Russian friend Elena. Now she says that this is one of the few authentic Russian Restaurants in Korea. It’s over by Dongdaemun Station Exit 7 and this area is like little Russia. Most of the stores have Russian signs. There are Russian Groceries nearby too.

Russian food is very hearty and the taste ranges from sour to wholesome. I wouldn’t say the stuff that I ate was really spicy. It’s excellent food for winter.

We started out with some pelmeni which are little dumplings made with lamb meat.

Selyodka pod shuboj is like a layered smoked salmon and lox dish. It has beets on top and then a layer of mayonnaisse, potatoes, I believe onions and then a smoked fish on the bottom. The flavors all together merge into a very pleasant medley of flavors. The subtle potatoes are sweetened with the tart beets and then you get that smokey fish pop.

Solyanka is a slightly sour soup with sausage, olives, cucumbers, and paprika and topped with sour cream and green onions. Delicious as well.

Farshirova niij perets- stuffed pepper dish.

Sorry, for the quick post, but I have to get ready for work. Thanks for reading and does anyone know of any Ethiopian restaurants in Korea? I’ve heard there is one. I just don’t know where it is.
